Mask Item 376

Price Upon Request

6.5 W. x 8.25 H. inches

Wood and oil paint.  Attachment straps intact.

Late 3rd or early 4th quarter of 20th Century.

Mask represents a goat for the Dance of the Goats.  This dance is no longer performed in the community where I acquired the mask.  The person in charge of the dance and the masks had died.  There was no one to continue the tradition.  One of the horns was broken and was repainted. Since the sheen and color tone of the areas touched up match the rest of the mask I assume that these repairs were done shortly after the mask was made.  Possibly after the first use.

Provenance provided to buyer.
